Donate New and Used Gear and Equipment
For used gear you'd like to part ways with...
We regularly accept new and/or used gear and equipment so long as it is in good condition and appropriate for our trek purposes. Items we accept include, but are not limited to: expedition backpacks, non-cotton-based sleeping bags, sleeping pads, hiking boots, camping stoves and cooking equipment, kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards, paddles, personal flotation devices, etc. We generally do not accept used articles of clothing, unless it is an outer layer of some type (e.g., water resistant wind breaker, rain pants). We also will not accept gear that is ripped/torn, smells of mold (you know that bad basement smell), has gross stains, or is broken in any way. It is also the responsibility of the donor to help get the gear to us when possible.
Because True North Treks is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, your gear/equipment donation may qualify as a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes for the estimated value of the item. Following receipt of the donation, you will be provided with a thank you letter and acknowledgement from True North Treks, including the estimated worth of the donation. It is a good idea to consult with a tax adviser or the IRS to determine whether your contribution is indeed deductible. |
