One huge benefit of having the WALDEN Institute is that it allows us to now be able to work with different volunteers in a much better, bigger, and broader way. When True North Treks was only offering backcountry wilderness treks in places like Wyoming and Utah, and potential volunteers would ask if and how they could help, one of the only things we could suggest was to help us through fundraising (while we understand this isn't always what people want to do, it is still very helpful mind you). Unless you're a trained guide or staff member, we aren't able to bring volunteers out into the backcountry on our treks for a variety of reasons, and a lot of people who learn about what we do are very interested in volunteering to do just that.
Now that we will be offering a variety of different programs at the WALDEN Institute, there are many other opportunities in which volunteers can serve. Below is a just a quick list of some different volunteer opportunities:

- Helping to maintain the farm and orchard
- Making and maintaining trails on the property
- Clearing brush and gathering/splitting firewood
- Helping with gear and equipment maintenance
- When select groups are present, working in the kitchen or wearing other "all hands on deck" staff hats
- Volunteering healing skills and services such as teaching yoga, meditation, giving massage, etc.
